"The Renaissance people seemed to fill the house making decisions

about everything. The over-painted feel was eliminated and we were

very pleased to have just the atmosphere we wanted, in which the

rooms seemed to flow into each other".

Towards a Renovation Renaissance

Renaissance are architectural designers and we renovate period houses.

Design & Build is anywhere in England and consultancy is international.

We use conservation methods for repairing and appropriate

and sympathetic architectural design innovation for adaptations.

A Rebirth of Period Houses

There is an increasing need for expert advisors and we have a track record of over 30 years working with 1,000 years of historic architectural  styles. The earliest structure we've worked on is ancient-Roman and the latest was a new cottage in 2000.

Most of our work is renovating period town and country houses of  brick or stone under slate or timber-framed under thatch. We've converted barns and  redundant buildings, repaired ancient dovecotes and churches.

There are a number of manor houses in the portfolio built in the reigns of,

Richard I, Henry VII, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Oliver Cromwell, Charles II, William & Mary, Queen Anne, George II, George III, Prince Regent, Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V.

Looking For Renovation Money?
Worldwide, heritage laws are becoming more complex.
British listed buildings come with extra criminal legislation requiring extra planning
experience to comply and also mitigate unreasonable application.
The Government  repays this extra responsibility with public grants and tax
reliefs to help property owners offset some of the extra expense involved in hiring specialist designers.

A Renaissance Of Conservation Principles
Renaissance applies traditional as well as conventionalmethods pragmatically so authentic historic character, as well as property market value, is maintained. The Government demands a high quality of experience from designers so they are capable of giving appropriate advice to private owners of historic buildings protected by the State.  And expects professional building designers to have relevant practical experience.  At Renaissance; training, and a portfolio of previous projects, satisfies the Environment Department and English Heritage's Planning & Policy Guidance.  There are local authority officials who cannot get enough of our principles they visit this website regularly, especially at the time we update information. We are flattered to think we are making a difference. We observe the North American Association of Preservation Technologies guidance manual, the European-wide Zurich Municipal guidance manual that guarantees standard conditions,  and 'William Morris's' 1830's conservation principles that led to the first modern legislation.  We are members of the Traditional  Paint Forum.
Renaissance People
Founded in 1974, the Renaissance partnership is based in the UN World Heritage City of Bath. Renaissance's team is put together for each project depending on the building or geography.  As each period house and cottage is unique we sometimes involve extra consultants like structural engineers or archaeologists, masons or carpenters.  Under the direction of the partners: Edwina Larner, trained at Salisbury College of Art and whose bold interior & exterior colour sense has been gained from homemaking;  Adrian  Dobinson Dip Arch Con, trained at The University of Bristol, The Royal College of Art, London,  was previously consultant operations director of a 100-people chartered architects practice.  And have a range of architectural renovation courses in England, and occasional seminars in North America.
